Costa Rica - Day 2

I had a pretty good sleep and ate some yogurt that I had picked up at the grocery store the day I arrived.  And then I got ready for today’s adventure and that was the Arenal 1968 Volcano hike.  There are a few options and you don't have to decide right away.  The only think you need to decide in advance is if you want a guide, I decided to just do it on my own.

Both hikes start out the same, you have the lava flow loop and that is about an hour or you can do the forest trail loop, which is more difficult and takes about 2.5 - 3 hours. It is considered moderate.  You don't need to decide until you get to the lookout on which loop you are going to do.  It starts off in the woods and shady, which is nice.

Then you get to this viewpoint of the volcano.  This is the closest you can get to it.

Some views of Lake Arenal

I was hot!

From here you decide which way you are going to go.  I opted to do the longer, the forest loop.

It was such a pretty hike.

What's fun is that they have cutter ants and you can see them working hard.

As I was finishing up the hike, I was feeling the pain.  It is considered a moderate hike.  The biggest problem was the heat, I was so hot by the end and getting tired of going down a hill only to have to climb twice as high right after.  But I did it and it was very worth it.  Here is the honesty... once I got back to my airbnb I walked straight into the shower clothed and all to cool off!

I didn't do too much for the rest of the day, I went to a Soda (local restaurant) and had a plate lunch (meat, rice, beans & salad), that I forgot to take photos of. and then hung around the hot springs the rest of the night, I had earned the relaxation.
